Check out these articles interviewing Lory Stewart about Adaptive Musical Theatre!
Finally a Musical Theatre program that is truly inclusive! Adaptive Musical Theatre includes all of our friends with Special Needs, including those who are nonverbal and non-ambulatory. Our first 12 week Adaptive Musical Theatre Curriculum will walk you though each AMT Unit step-by-step for each class! Each week a video takes you through check-ins, physical warm-ups, discussion questions and analysis of the story, characters and technical aspects of the musical studied that week, musical numbers with easy and fun choreography for students to follow, acting exercises, critiques and exit tickets. It's all there for you in one video! This curriculum, as well as our lesson plans and resources, has been tested for 4 years of class (including virtual) and 18 adapted original musicals. Perfect for any actors ages 5-95 with and without Special Needs. Professional Development, guidance and assistance are available from Lory Stewart.
Lory "Stewy" Stewart has a BFA from UT Austin and has been directing theatre for over 30 years, as well as writing and directing musicals with adults who have Special Needs for almost 20 years. In 2019 she created an Adaptive Musical Theatre Program with Supportive Peers (similar to Partners in PE) at Hays High School in Buda, Texas for ALL students with Special Needs, including nonverbal and non-ambulatory students, who are many times left out of Musical Theatre performances.
